Memory # 31-40
31 Eighth Commandment and meaning
You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not tell lies about our
neighbor, betray him, slander him, or hurt his reputation, but defend him, speak well of him,
and explain everything in the kindest way.
32 Ephesians 4:32
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
33 Ninth Commandment and meaning
You shall not covet your neighbor's house.
What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not scheme to get our
neighbor's inheritance or house, or get it in a way which only appears right,
but help and be of service to him in keeping it.
34 I John 1:8-9
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins,
he is faithful and just, to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
35 Tenth Commandment and meaning
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant,
his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not entice or force away
our neighbor's wife, workers, or animals, or turn them against him, but urge him to
stay and do their duty.
36 Joel 2:13
Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger,
and abounding in steadfast love.
37 Ezekiel 18:30
Repent and turn from all your transgressions.
38 Revelation 2:10b
Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.
39 The First Article and meaning
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
What does this mean? I believe that God has made me and all creatures;
that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members,
my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them. He also gives me
clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children,
land, animals, and all I have. He richly and daily provides me with all that
I need to support this body and life. He defends me against all danger and
guards and protects me from all evil. All this He does only out of fatherly,
divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me. For all
this it is my duty to thank and praise, serve and obey him.
This is most certainly true.
40 Hebrews 11:3
By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command,
so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
